Được thành lập vào năm 1875, trường Đại học Công giáo Miền Tây (UCO) là một trong những trường đại học lâu đời nhất Miền Tây nước Pháp, và cũng là cơ sở đào tạo tiên phong trong đào tạo đại học và nghiên cứu hiện nay. 

Là một trường liên vùng có tầm ảnh hưởng quốc tế, UCO gồm có nhiều khoa, phân chia theo lĩnh vực, tại 9 cơ sở ở Miền  Tây và vùng hải ngoại : 

- Khoa Luật, kinh tế, quản lý 

- Khoa Giáo dục

- Khoa Nhân văn (Nghệ thuật, Văn học, Ngôn ngữ, Lịch sử, Thông tin- truyền thông)

- Khoa Xã hội và Nhân văn (Tâm lý học, Xã hội học, Nhân sự)

- Khoa Khoa học (Sinh học - môi trường, Toán-Tin, Khoa học thể thao - STAPS)

- Khoa Thần học và Khoa học tôn giáo. 

UCO là cơ sở đào tạo Đại học và nghiên cứu tư thục theo hợp đồng với Nhà nước. 

Văn bằng của UCO cấp là bằng quốc gia (Cử nhân, Thạc sĩ, Tiến sĩ), đủ điều kiện để xin học bổng Chính phủ, bằng đại học do trường cấp (DU), các bằng cấp chuyên biệt (theo cấp bậc của RNCP, chứng chỉ, ...). 

Từ xưa đến nay, sự thành công của sinh viên luôn là tôn chỉ của trường, từ đó trường xây dựng nên nhiều chính sách hỗ trợ và đồng hành cá nhân : tỷ lệ sinh viên hoàn thành năm thứ nhất bậc cử nhân là 86%  và 80% sinh viên có bằng Thạc sĩ tìm được việc làm trong vòng 6 tháng sau khi tốt nghiệp. Với tinh thần quốc tế hóa, UCO mang đến cho sinh viên cơ hội thực tập hoặc trao đổi tại nước ngoài, đồng thời đón tiếp hơn 1 700 sinh viên quốc tế đến từ 70 quốc gia khác nhau.
